About EIMC

EIMC stands for European Intuitive Music Conference. It started out as the Danish Intuitive Music Conference (DIMC) in 1995.

The mission statement of EIMC is:

EIMC aims since 1995 at bringing improvising musicians, composers and other performing artists together internationally for creative sessions and workshops, formal and informal exchange and discussions. We follow the tradition of integrating "high" and "low" backgrounds - beginners and academic specialists are equally welcome and the participation fees should be low. We do not offer paid gigs or paid workshops. We value informal collaborations and learning from each other - there are no "guest stars" or "authorities" to lead workshops, only competent participants who are free to exchange with each other. We strive to cultivate "multi-mindedness", collective and democratic ways of working.

A conference is held annually, usually in the summer. It is organised by an organising committee consisting of about four members, musicians who have attended the EIMC more often. In addition, there is the advisory board, which now has two members: Carl Bergstrøm-Nielsen and Roman Stolyar. Their task is to provide the organising committee with good advice and feedback.

Musicians from many countries have participated in one or more editions of the EIMC, for example from Argentina, Azerbaijan, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Serbia, Ukraine, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Japan, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, Estonia and the US. These are musicians with formal musical training or amateurs, some with considerable experience in improvisation others not.

At the annual conference, the ‘general meeting’ is held with all participants who are thus ‘members’ that year. The agenda then includes, for example, the finances of that conference, the planning for the next one and the composition of the next organising committee.

The EIMC is not a formal association or foundation, but operates informally. There are some rules, which are called the Regulations for the Association for the European Intuitive Music Conference (download 2024 version).
